Police lay armed robbery charge at Manly West

A 25-year-old Slacks Creek man has been charged with 15 offences in relation to an armed robbery at Manly West on Tuesday, June 7.

It is alleged two men attended a Preston Road store at approximately 5.15am, before one of the men approached a store attendant demanding money and cigarettes.

It is further alleged the attendant was assaulted, and the men left with a quantity of cash, in a vehicle stolen from Brookwater on June 6.

The following day (Wednesday June 8) patrolling Highway Patrol officers observed the stolen vehicle allegedly driving dangerously in the Bayside area.

POLAIR tracked the vehicle to Amberjack Street in Manly West, where it is alleged the two occupants ran from the vehicle.

Police and dog squad officers already deployed in the area swiftly located and arrested the two men.

A 25-year-old Slacks Creek man has been charged with one count each of armed robbery (in company, wounded, using personal violence), common assault, serious assault person over 60, assault occasioning bodily harm (armed/in company), burglary, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, receiving tainted property and two counts each of wilful damage and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and three counts of enter premise with intent to commit indictable offence.

A 23-year-old Woolloongabba man has been charged with offences unrelated to the Manly West robbery, including receiving tainted property, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter premise and commit indictable offence, fail to dispose of needle and fail to appear.

Both men appeared before Wynnum Magistrates Court on Thursday (June 9), where they were remanded in custody with their matters expected to be heard again on June 27.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage in the area surrounding Preston Road between 5am and 6am on June 7 is urged to contact police.

Investigations remain ongoing.
