Police lay charges after Box Hill tram incident

Police have charged a man after he allegedly attempted to remove a boy from a Box Hill tram yesterday.

The alleged incident took place on a 109 tram near Elgar Road about 3.45pm on Monday 15 August.

A female passenger intervened and pulled the child back onto the tram before the man left on foot.

The boy was not physically injured during the incident.

The 39-year-old man was arrested in Box Hill this morning following a joint effort by local police and the Transit Crime Investigation Unit.

The Camberwell man was interviewed by transit detectives and subsequently charged with attempted kidnapping, common law assault, commit indictable offence whilst on bail.

He has been remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on the 17 August.
