Police lay charges after Dandenong carjacking

Southern Metro Regional Crime Squad have charged a man following an alleged aggravated carjacking in Dandenong on 1 July.

Detectives from the Southern Metropolitan Regional Crime Squad executed a search warrant at property on View Street in Hampton Park where they seized clothing and other items.

It’s alleged the victim was approached by a male near the entrance of a fast-food restaurant on Stud Road about 3.30am.

Police allege the man produced an imitation firearm and demanded the victim to hand over his car keys.

The male fled the scene in the victim’s grey Mazda sedan towards Princes Highway.

The victim was not physically injured.

A 23-year-old Hampton Park man has been charged with aggravated carjacking, prohibited person possess imitation firearm, theft of motor vehicle and unlicenced driving.

He will face Melbourne Magistrates’ Court tonight.
