Police lay charges after fail to stop at Homebush

Police have charged a man after a pedestrian was hit in Homebush West yesterday.

About 5pm yesterday (Monday 1 January 2024), emergency services were called to a business at Hornsey Road, Homebush West, following reports a woman had been hit by a car.

Officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command arrived to find a 27-year-old woman pinned between a van and a building.

The woman was freed by NSW Fire and Rescue before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

Police established a crime scene and officers from the Crash Investigation Unit have launched an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 52-year-old man nearby.

He was taken to Auburn police station where he returned a breath analysis reading of 0.133.

The man was subsequently charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm – drive under influence, dangerous driving occasion grievous bodily harm – drive manner dangerous, fail to stop and assist after impact causing grievous bodily harm and negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm).

Police will allege in court the man fled the scene after hitting the woman and did not attempt to render aid.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Tuesday 2 January 2023).
