A man has been charged after a pedestrian was hit and killed by a car in Sydney’s west yesterday.
Emergency services were called to River Road, Leonay – near Penrith – about 4.30pm (Tuesday 28 April 2020), after reports a woman had been hit by a car.
On arrival officers found a 63-year-old woman on the roadway deceased.
Police will allege the vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of the road before it mounted the curb and hit the pedestrian.
The 25-year-old male driver of a silver Kia Rio was spoken to by police before being taken to Nepean Hospital for mandatory tests.
Officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command established a crime scene, and the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following inquiries, the man was arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station, where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), not keep left of dividing line, and possession of prohibited drugs.
He was refused bail to appear before Penrith Local Court today (Wednesday 29 April 2020).
