Police lay charges – Aggravated assault in Alice Springs 16 February

Northern Territory Police have charged a man in relation to a violent incident that occurred in Alice Springs earlier this week.

At around 8:15pm on Monday, police received reports that a male and female had unlawfully entered a property on Bath Street and assaulted the residents inside.

The pair had allegedly had an altercation moments before with some of the residents. The occupants included one female adult and four children.

Both the male and female offenders fled the scene and police apprehended the 24-year-old male a short time later.

He has since been charged with:

  • 4 x Aggravated assault
  • 1 x Intend to cause serious harm
  • 1 x Unlawful entry – dwelling (aggravated)
  • 1 x Damage to property
  • 1 x Armed with an offensive weapon

He was remanded to appear in Alice Springs Local Court today.

Police are currently investigating the whereabouts of the female offender.

Detective Superintendent Kirsten Engels said, “This sort of senseless violence is completely unacceptable and has no place within our community.

“A woman received burns from boiling water being thrown at her, requiring treatment at Alice Springs Hospital. Some of the children also received minor injuries.

“It is utterly reprehensible that a family has been attacked in their own home and that children have not only witnessed violence, but have also been victims of it.

“The identity of the second offender is known, and police are working right now to find her and hold her to account.”
