Police lay charges – Aggravated robbery – Karama

Serious Crime Squad detectives have arrested and charged a 31-year-old man with multiple offences relating to a number of incidents in January 2020.

Police believe a 34-year-old male victim arranged to meet the 31-year-old and a 25-year-old male in Karama for the purpose of purchasing drugs around 9:00pm on Saturday, 18 January.

The victim arrived to the location where he got into the alleged offenders’ vehicle. The group then drove to Shoal Bay Waste Facility. Police allege the two males filmed themselves assaulting the victim with bodily force and edged weapons prior to demanding the victims’ cash and bank card. The offenders then took cash from the victim’s bank account at a shopping centre in Palmerston and left him on site. The victim sustained injuries to his knee and face.

Around 2:00am on Monday, 20 January, the 31-year-old allegedly entered a Bakewell residence and threatened the occupants with an edged weapon. He left the location in a vehicle which was later located by police on Neale Street, Eaton. Police apprehended the male and took him into custody.

Police transported the male to Palmerston Watch House where he was subjected to drug testing which returned a positive reading for methamphetamine, amphetamine and cannabis.

The 31-year-old male has been charged with:

  • Supply schedule 1 drug – less than commercial quantity
  • Allow another administer drug
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Demand with menaces
  • Unlawful entry – Dwelling
  • Damage to property
  • 2x Aggravated assault
  • 2x Self-administer drug
  • Possess thing to administer drug
  • Drive with prohibited drug in blood

He is due to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
