Northern Territory Police have charged three youths in relation to an aggravated unlawful use of a stolen motor vehicle in Alice Springs this morning.
A vehicle was stolen from a carpark in the Alice Springs CBD area on Sunday 1 May, 2022.
Just after midnight, police observed the stolen vehicle driving dangerously near and within Karnte Camp.
The vehicle was again seen driving in a reckless manner along the Stuart Highway around 12:20am, and police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device at the Tom Brown round-about and four youths were arrested at the scene.
A 14-year-old male was charged with:
- 3 x Recklessly Endangering Life
- 1 x Drive Manner Dangerous
- 2 x Aggravated Unlawful Use of Motor Vehicle
- 1 x Drive Unlicensed
Two males, aged 14 and 19, were charged with:
- 1x Aggravated Unlawful Use of Motor Vehicle
They will appear before court at a later date.
An 11-year-old will be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act 2005.
Detective Senior Sergeant Evan Kelly said, “This incident is an example of the dangers these youth offenders pose to our community members and the police whose job it is to keep our community safe.
“They have no care or consideration for the victims they create, the safety of other road users or anyone for that matter. It is huge concern for the community that individuals continue to behave in this manner, risking the lives of the others.”
