Police lay charges – Domestic and family violence offences – Palmerston

Northern Territory Police from the Domestic and Family Violence Section have charged a 40-year-old man over a serious assault on his partner.

Police allege the man assaulted the 32-year-old woman at a residence in Palmerston on the weekend.

The man has been charged with:

  • Recklessly endangering life
  • Aggravated assault
  • Strangling in a domestic relationship
  • Failure to rescue

He has been remanded in custody.

The victim remains in a serious condition in Royal Darwin Hospital.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Warren Scott said, “Northern Territory Police will continue to seek out and prosecute domestic violence offenders in a zero tolerance approach.

“We encourage people affected by domestic violence to report it to Police on 131 444 or to call 000 in an emergency. We also remind everyone of the mandatory reporting obligations surrounding domestic violence.”

Victims may also seek help by calling 1800 RESPECT, a national counselling and support service for sexual and domestic violence.
