Police lay charges – Domestic violence in Darwin 30 August

Northern Territory Police have charged a man in relation to a domestic violence incident in Malak last week.

During the afternoon of Thursday 25 August, a 33-year-old man allegedly assaulted a woman known to him multiple times before pouring boiling water over her.

The woman was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital with serious but non-life-threating injuries.

The man was arrested and later released pending further investigations.

He was re-arrested yesterday and has since been charged with:

  • 3 x Aggravated assault
  • 1 x Recklessly endanger serious harm

He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

Superintendent James O’Brien said, “Addressing domestic and family violence in our community is one of the highest priorities for the Northern Territory Police Force.

“This was a particularly violent and traumatic incident that has absolutely no place within our community.

“Anyone aware of or experiencing domestic and family violence is encouraged to reach out for help. You can contact police at any time on 131 444 or in an emergency call 000.”
