Police lay charges over assault in Granville

A man will face court today charged over allegedly assaulting another man in Sydney’s west yesterday.

About 2.45pm yesterday (Monday 29 June 2020), police will allege a 32-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were walking across the overpass at Granville Railway s=Station when a 34-year man, who was known to them, approached and became verbally abusive.

The argument became physical, with both men punching each other and wrestling onto the roadway on Good Street.

During the incident, a ceramic vase was broken, and the older man allegedly stabbed the younger man in the right arm with a piece of the vase before fleeing the scene.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command attended and rendered first aid to the man who had suffered significant blood loss.

NSW Ambulance paramedics attended, and the 32-year-old man was conveyed to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.

The 30-year-old woman was treated at the scene before also being conveyed to Westmead Hospital for assessment. She was not injured in the incident.

A short time later, police arrested the 34-year-old man on nearby Bridge Street.

He was taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Tuesday 30 June 2020).

The 32-year-old man is recovering from surgery in hospital and remains in a stable condition.
