Police lay charges over drug offences in Darwin

Northern Territory Police have charged two people for drug offences following an investigation into the supply of cannabis.

On Tuesday 10 March 2020, detectives from the Drug and Organised Crime Division conducted a traffic apprehension on a vehicle in Zuccoli. A search of the vehicle located a less than traffickable quantity of cannabis plant material, a methamphetamine pipe, and a large box of unused clip seal bags. $1,975 cash was found on a 16-year-old female.

Police conducted another vehicle apprehension on the same road a short time after. A search of the vehicle found a backpack containing numerous unused clip seal bags, scales, and a traffickable quantity of cannabis. Police located $1,080 cash on a 17-year-old male.

The two teenagers along with a 39-year-old woman and 21-year-old woman were arrested and conveyed to Palmerston Watch House.

Detective Superintendent Kerry Hoskins said “It is disturbing to find that youths were behind the trafficking of dangerous drugs into the community”.

The 16-year-old was charged with:

  • supply commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • supply less than commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • possess tainted property

He was remanded in custody to appear in Youth Justice Court yesterday, bailed by the court to appear on Monday 16 March 2020.

The 17-year-old was charged with:

  • 2x supply commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • 2x possess commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • 1x possess traffickable quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • 1x supply less than commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • 1x supply less than commercial quantity schedule 1 dangerous drug
  • 1x possess traffickable quantity schedule 1 dangerous drug
  • 1x possess tainted property
  • 1x possess drug implement
  • 1x disorderly behaviour in watch house

He was remanded in custody to appear in Youth Justice Court yesterday, bailed by the court to appear on Wednesday 18 March 2020.

The 39-year-old was issued a notice to appear at the Darwin Local Court on 5 May 2020 charged with supply commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug.

The 21-year-old was issued with a notice to appear at the Darwin Local Court on 5 May 2020 charged with possess traffickable quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug.
