Police lay charges – Property and drug offences – Berry Springs

Northern Territory Police have charged a man in relation to the theft of an excavator from a construction site in September.

Acting on information received, members from Strike Force Trident executed a warrant at a property in Berry Springs on Tuesday, where they located the five-tonne machine.

Constable David Emmott said, “During the execution of the search warrant, members observed a number of other suspicious items and sought an additional warrant to continue searching the property.”

In addition to the excavator, police located:

  • A stolen motorbike
  • A traffickable amount of methamphetamine and cannabis
  • two firearms
  • A large quantity of mixed ammunition
  • Other items indicative of drug supply.

Police arrested a 29-year-old man at the scene. He was later charged with:

  • Possess traffickable schedule 1 dangerous drug
  • Possess traffickable schedule 2 dangerous drug
  • Supply Schedule 1 drug less than commercial quantity
  • Supply schedule 2 drug less than commercial quantity
  • Aggravated unlawful use motor vehicle
  • Unlawfully possess property
  • 2 x possess/use prohibited firearm
  • Possess / use firearm whilst unlicensed
  • Fail to meet storage requirements
  • 2 x Unregistered firearm
  • Possess ammunition without permit/licence
  • Possess use or carry a prohibited weapon
  • Possess equipment manufacture drug or precursor
  • Possess thing to administer.

He was remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Local Court today.

“Thanks to the information received that led to the recovery of the stolen excavator, Police were also able to interrupt the supply of dangerous drugs into the community,” Constable Emmott said.
