Police lay charges – Robbery – Jingili

Northern Territory Police have arrested a male and female after a robbery and dangerous driving incident in Jingili yesterday.

Around 10:30am, police received reports that a male aged 25 and a female aged 29, had unlawfully entered residence in Jingili with 4 children at home.

The pair allegedly stole a number of items including jewellery and 3 shotguns.

A male resident retuned home and confronted the offenders, with one allegedly threatening him with a knife before the offenders fled the scene in a Toyota Landcruiser.

Members from Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit deployed to the scene and began tracking the Landcruiser with the assistance of the male resident.

The vehicle was observed driving erratically through Jingili and Ludmilla, before it collided with a parked vehicle on Bremer Street, Ludmilla, and drove into a nearby drain.

Both offenders were arrested without incident with all of the stolen property recovered.

Both offenders were believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine with the 25-year-old conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for assessment while the 29-year-old was remanded in custody.

The 29-year-old has since been charged with:

  • Aggravated Burglary – Dwelling x 1
  • Aggravated Robbery x 1
  • Damage to Property x 3
  • Theft x 1
  • Drive Vehicle in a Manner Dangerous x 1
  • Fail to Report a Crash x 1
  • Drive With Prohibited Drug in Body x 1
  • Drive a Motor Vehicle While Unlicensed x 1
  • Possess / Use Firearm While Unlicensed x 1
  • Possess Ammunition Without a License x 1
  • Possess Plates Calculate to Deceive x 1
  • Drive Unregistered Motor Vehicle x 1
  • Drive Uninsured Motor Vehicle x 1
  • Not Stop After Crash x 1

She was remanded to appear in Darwin Local today.

The 25-year-old remains under police guard at Royal Darwin Hospital and is expected to be charged with:

  • Aggravated Burglary – Dwelling x 1
  • Aggravated Robbery x 1
  • Damage to Property x 1
  • Theft x 1
  • Possess / Use Firearm While Unlicensed x 1
  • Possess Ammunition Without a License x 1
  • Breach of Bail x 1

Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said “This was a confronting incident for the family involved and thankfully no one was injured.

“The quick thinking resident who immediately contacted police on Triple Zero allowed us to begin tracking the vehicle without delay and helped facilitate a quick arrest. These arrests were excellent work from Trident and Dog Operations.

“Police continue to urge members of public who witness crime or antisocial behaviour to make contact on 131 444 or in an emergency to contact Triple Zero.”
