Police make arrest after further cyber attacks

Detectives from the Victoria Police E-Crime Squad have arrested a man this morning as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.

A 34-year-old Ringwood man was arrested last month in relation to alleged DDoS attacks made against a telecommunications business and a large shopping complex between June and October this year.

The man was charged three counts of unauthorised impairment of electronic media and subsequently released on bail to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court next year.

Detectives have been made aware of further recent incidents as part of this investigation and have taken the Ringwood man into custody again this morning.

He is currently assisting with enquiries.

A Distributed Denial of Service attack is an online attack aimed at disrupting website or telephone systems by overwhelming them with traffic.
