Northern Territory Police arrested two people after a disturbance in Palmerston on Saturday morning.
Before 2:30am, vigilant CCTV operators detected a male carrying a machete while proceeding towards a parked vehicle on The Boulevard, Palmerston.
General duties were immediately deployed to the scene, continuing to communicate with CCTV operators to ascertain the identity of the male in possession of the machete.
A 27-year-old male was successfully located and apprehended, and the machete was seized without further incident. Subsequently, police uncovered a replica pistol situated on the front bumper of the vehicle, which was promptly seized.
A second male, aged 33, within the vicinity was also arrested in connection to the replica pistol and a quantity of amphetamine-type substance.
Both males were arrested and charged with armed with an offensive weapon at night and possess schedule 1 less than traffickable quantity. The pair were bailed and will face Darwin Local Court on 20 February 2024.
The CCTV operator identified suspicious packaging near the parked vehicle during the incident. Crews on the ground were promptly redirected to the specified location by the CCTV operators, leading to the discovery and seizure of an additional quantity of amphetamine substance.
