Police make arrest for drug offences

A man has been arrested for drug offences after a traffic stop in the western suburbs late last night.

Just before 10pm on Tuesday 21 July, a police patrol spotted the driver of a Ford sedan allegedly using his mobile phone whilst driving on Port Road at Thebarton. Police stopped the vehicle and had a conversation with the driver.

The patrol noticed an axe handle in the rear seat of the vehicle. Police searched the vehicle and located a substantial amount of cash on the front seat. The driver was also searched and a substance believed to be methamphetamine was located on him.

About 11.30pm Western District Detectives searched a home at Cheltenham where they located approximately $600K in cash, 100g of heroin, 50ml of fantasy, 10g of methamphetamine and an amount of cannabis.

A 55-year-old man from Cheltenham was arrested and charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of drug, money laundering and carry offensive weapon. He was refused police bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court later today (22 July).
