Police Make Arrest – Serious Harm At Wadeye

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to a serious harm incident that occurred in Wadeye yesterday.

Around 10.15pm, police received reports that a 33-year-old man had suffered a stab wound to his back after an altercation with a 37-year-old man.

The two men are known to each other.

Police responded and identified the alleged offender a short time later at a residence. The 37-year-old was arrested without incident and the knife was located and seized.

He has since been charged with Recklessly endangering serious harm. He has been remanded in custody to appear in Darwin local court tomorrow.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was subsequently conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for further treatment.

Wadeye District Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson said, “This was a particularly violent incident resulting in very serious injuries to the victim.

“I commend the work of the police officers involved to arrest the offender without incident and ensure no further harm occurred.

“Violent behaviour such as this is absolutely reprehensible, and our thoughts are with the victim as they receive treatment in hospital.”
