Police make arrest – Violent conduct in Darwin

Northern Territory Police have arrested four people after they smashed the windows of a car and attacked the driver in the Darwin CBD yesterday.

At 3:05pm police received a report of multiple people attacking a car and its owner near the corner of Mitchell and Knuckey streets.

While driving on Mitchell Street a female ran into the path of the vehicle when the owner was making a U-turn.

A member of the woman’s group then confronted the driver once he parked his car. As he walked away the group started throwing bottles at the vehicle.

The 28-year-old owner returned to his car and a group of four offenders continued to pelt the vehicle with bottles, smashing some windows.

The offenders then sourced metal trays from behind a shop and used them to smash the remaining windows and the windscreen of the vehicle.

The victim was also pelted with metal objects, causing lacerations to his head and arm.

Security guards arrived at the scene and apprehended one person before police arrived and arrested all four offenders.

St John Ambulance conveyed the victim to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

Four offenders, one male aged 20 years, and three females aged 22, 23 and 29 have all been charged with Engage in Violent Conduct, Damage to Property and Assault.

The male has also been charged with Assault Police.

The 22-year-old female has been bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 18 January.

The other 3 offenders have been remanded into custody until January 4 when they will appear in Darwin Local Court.
