Northern Territory Police have arrested 3 youths in relation to a crime series throughout Darwin.
Around 4am this morning, police received reports of 2 vehicles being stolen from a residential premises in Fannie Bay. Both vehicles were reported to be driving dangerously through nearby areas and were later involved in an unlawful entry at a business in Fannie Bay.
Around an hour later, police located one of the vehicles abandoned in Nightcliff.
Strike Force Trident members located the second vehicle continuing to drive dangerously throughout the suburbs of Karama, Malak, Moil Jingili and Millner. The offenders within the vehicle allegedly threw a number of objects at police before attempting to ram, and successfully ramming, a police vehicle on Dowdy Street, Millner.
Members from Trident pursued the vehicle onto Rapid Creek Road where tyre deflation devices were successfully deployed. The vehicle continued to drive through Rapid Creek before coming to a stop near the intersection of Chapman Road and Casuarina Drive.
Strike Force Trident and members from the Territory Response Group apprehended two 13-year-olds while the Dog Operation Unit apprehended a 12-year-old from the vehicle.
All 3 youths remain in custody and are expected to be charged later this evening.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said “Investigations into these incidents remain ongoing and police believe multiple other offenders may have been involved at various stages of the offending.
“We are also investigating multiple burglaries and attempted burglaries at businesses and residences in the greater Darwin area that may have been committed by the same cohort of offenders.
“The behaviour we saw during today’s arrests with the deliberate targeting of police is incredibly concerning and completely unacceptable. Our goal is to ensure the safety of the community and to be attacked whilst doing so shows the complete disregard that a small cohort of individual have towards police.
