Police Make Arrests – Property Offences In Darwin 11 March

Northern Territory Police are investigating multiple unrelated aggravated robberies and burglaries over the weekend.

Around 5pm on Friday, police responded to reports of up to 7 adults attending a bottle shop on Dripstone Road, Casuarina, causing damage and stealing alcohol. One of the offenders allegedly suffered a laceration to her arm and was quickly located by police at a nearby bus exchange where she was taken into custody.

Later that night, police received reports 3 youths, armed with knives, attended a carpark on Gsell Street, Wanguri, and threatened a male and female victim within a Silver Mazda 3. The youths stole the vehicle and drove to a service station in Ludmilla where they allegedly threatened an employee with a knife before stealing cash and fleeing the scene.

A short time after this incident the youths involved were sighted by Police CCTV Operators walking around the Nightcliff area. Police established a cordon and apprehended 4 youths , with one youth claiming that another group of youth had forcibly stolen the car from them.

Two offenders were under age of criminal responsibility and were conveyed home into the care of responsible adults while two 13-year-year-old’s were arrested. Just after 4am on the Saturday morning, the stolen Mazda was located by Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit in Ludmilla with a 14-year-old being arrested from within the vehicle. Several other youths fled from the vehicle and remain outstanding.

Around 4:30am yesterday, police received reports of a burglary at a sports club on Tambling Terrace, Lyons. The offenders have allegedly caused damage to the premises before stealing a large quantity of alcohol and fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle. Trident attended and reviewed CCTV which later resulted in the arrest of 14 and 15-year-old and the recovery of a large quantity of alcohol.

Earlier this morning, police received reports of multiple stolen vehicles driving around the Berrimah area. The vehicles were sighted by police just after 2am and pursued into the Holtze area where the offenders abandoned a stolen Mitsubishi Triton and fled on foot. Members from Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit tracked them to the Knuckey’s Lagoon area and arrested two 13-year-olds and a 15-year-old. The second vehicle being a stolen Toyota Hilux was then later used in a ram raid at a business in the Jape homemaker Village, causing significant damage. A local business owner disturbed the offenders who fled the scene on foot. Members from Strike Force Trident and the Dog Operations Unit tracked them to a nearby residence where a 12 and 14-year-old were arrested without incident.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dale Motter-Barnard said ” It was a busy weekend for police with Strike Force Trident currently investigating reports of up to 20 unlawfully entries across Darwin, Casuarina and Palmerston with 4 stolen vehicles currently outstanding.

“Multiple offenders have been taken into custody thanks to the hard work of Trident, Dog Ops, General Duties and CCTV operators and we are expecting further arrests in the coming days.

“Early reporting is vital in ensuring police can make quick apprehensions and we continue to urge anyone with information on the above incidents, or any crime, to make contact on 131 444 or triple zero in an emergency.”
