Police make drug arrest in Whitsundays, QLD

Detectives from the Whitsundays Criminal Investigation Branch have charged a man following the execution of warrants targeting dangerous drugs.

On Thursday, May 6, five search warrants were executed across the Whitsundays division resulting in the seizure of over $43,000, 22kg in cannabis, 41 grams in methamphetamine and 89 grams in cocaine.

A 22-year-old Airlie Beach man was arrested and charged with nine offences including two counts of supplying dangerous drugs and one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs. He was also charged with unlawful possession of a category R weapon (conductive energy device) and possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of crime (cash).

The man was refused bail and will appear in the Proserpine Magistrates Court today (May 7).

Detective Inspector Tom Armitt said that Whitsunday’s police are dedicated to preventing drug related crime in our community and will continue to target drug offenders.

“We rely on the public to assist us and strongly encourage members of the community to report any information relating to crime in our community,” Detective Inspector Armitt said.
