Police responding to fatal traffic incident at Nerang

Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating the circumstances of a fatal traffic incident that claimed the life of a 53-year-old motorcyclist.

Around 6am today the Merrimac man was fatally injured after he fell from the motorbike he was riding northbound on the Pacific Motorway at Nerang near exit 71.

Police are yet to confirm the circumstances of the incident but early investigations suggest a number of vehicles including the rider of the motorcycle took evasive action to avoid a ladder which fell from a trailer being towed by a ute.

As a result the motorcyclist was struck by one of the vehicles and sustained fatal injuries.

Police have located the vehicle it is believed the ladder came from and are speaking to the driver.

Investigations are ongoing.
