Police seek information at Townsville

Investigators are appealing for information after a man was assaulted by two other men at Garbutt in Townsville on Wednesday (November 2).

Between 11am and 12pm, the 49-year-old Kirwan man was riding his motorcycle along Stock Route Way before being flagged down by the two men, not known to him, in a silver Holden Colorado Utility.

Upon both parties pulling onto the side of the road, the two men exited the vehicle and allegedly assaulted the man, dragging him to the ground, where he was kicked and punched multiple times.

It will be further alleged the men stole both the man’s jacket and shirt before returning to their vehicle and fleeing the scene.

As a result of the assault, the 49-year-old man sustained significant facial injuries.

Police have since charged a 39-year-old Mount Low man with one count of robbery with violence.

He will next face Townsville Magistrates Court on December 19.

Investigators have released images of the incident and are still searching for the second man involved in the assault. They are appealing for anyone who witnessed this incident or have footage of it to contact police.

Detective Senior Sergeant Phil Watts, Officer in Charge of the Major and Organised Crime Squad (Northern), said, “Violence of this nature will not be tolerated in our community,”

“No stone will be left unturned to ensure the offenders are bought before the courts and held accountable for their actions.” He added.’
