Police seek witnesses after Kew fatal collision

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for witnesses following a collision that claimed the life of a woman in Kew this month.

Investigators have been told a silver Honda Civic sedan was travelling south along Princess Street about 12.55pm on Wednesday (1 April) towards the Kew Junction intersection.

It is understood the car failed to slow down and collided with a black Kia Rio hatchback and black BMW X3, which were both stopped at the lights waiting to turn right onto Studley Park Road.

As a result of the collision, the Kia and BMW were both pushed into the intersection, sustaining significant damage.

The drivers of those vehicles, a 55-year-old woman and 61-year-old man, were assessed by paramedics at the scene but did not sustain injuries.

The male driver of the Honda Civic, an 85-year-old Hawthorn man, and his passenger, an 81-year-old Hawthorn woman, were both taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The woman passed away in hospital later that evening.

Investigators are still determining the exact cause of the collision and are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have dash cam footage to come forward.

They are also hoping to speak to anyone who may have seen, or has footage of, the Honda Civic’s movements leading up to the collision.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
