Police update 3: Homicide investigation at Varsity Lakes, QLD

Police have charged a man over the alleged murder of a 17-year-old boy at Varsity Lakes yesterday evening.

It will be alleged that shortly before 5.40pm (Wednesday, September 4), two groups of young males who were known to each other attended Frascott Park in two separate vehicles, where a physical altercation occurred between the two groups.

It will be further alleged a man exited one of the vehicles and stabbed a 17-year-old Tallebudgera boy in the back while he was being assaulted, resulting in fatal injuries.

Last night, an 18-year-old Upper Coomera man presented himself to the Coomera Police Station.

This afternoon, detectives charged him with one count of murder and his matter was scheduled to be heard at the Southport Magistrates Court today (Thursday, September 5).

Police are now appealing to the other males involved in yesterday’s altercation to come forward.

Further, investigators are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed two vehicles, or a group of young males, in the vicinity of Frascott Park between 5pm and 6pm last night to come forward.

Police are also appealing to anyone with dash camera footage or CCTV in the area to contact police.
