Police update: Death in custody at Wilsonton, QLD

Investigations continue following the death of a 27-year-old man while being detained by police at Wilsonton on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

An autopsy was conducted yesterday, and the cause of death is unknown at this time.

In consultation with the State Coroner, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) has advised the man’s family and further testing is underway, which is expected to take some time before the results are known.

The QPS, in consultation with the State Coroner, will continue to advise the family on any updates.

Ethical Standards Command are continuing with investigations being overseen by the State Coroner and the Crime and Corruption Commission, both of which are independent of the QPS.

That investigation, which will consider all circumstances surrounding the man’s death, is ongoing and as such the QPS is not in a position to make any further comment at this time.
