Police update: Fatal house fire at Ayr, QLD

Detectives from Ayr Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), Townsville CIB and the Homicide Unit have established Operation Uniform Turmeric investigating a fatal house fire at Ayr yesterday (August 9).

Emergency services were called to a fire at a Home Hill Road residence at approximately 5.40am.

A 65-year-old man and 47-year-old woman were transported to Ayr Hospital in a critical condition, before being airlifted to Townsville University Hospital.

A man in his 20s was transported to Ayr Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The woman later passed away as a result of her injuries, her death is being treated as suspicious.

The 65-year-old man was further transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Investigators have been unable to speak to him at this stage, as he is receiving medical treatment.

The property remains a crime scene with police and fire investigators expected to finalise the scene examination today.

Police attendance at the residence for a welfare check at approximately 2.15am, where all parties were spoken to by officers, will form part of the investigation.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 4am and 6am yesterday who may have information, CCTV or dashcam footage to contact police.
