Police update: Robbery arrests at Cranbrook

Police have charged a teenage boy following an armed robbery in Cranbrook yesterday afternoon.

Around 4pm, police will allege a teenage male approached a 55-year-old woman in the carpark of a Ross River Road medical centre as she returned to her parked vehicle.

The male allegedly assaulted the woman before entering her car, starting it and attempting to drive away.

A female bystander entered the vehicle and prevented it from being driven away before she was allegedly assaulted.

The teenage male fled on foot into local parkland in company with a teenage girl.

They were both apprehended by police a short time later.

A 16-year-old boy has been charged with armed robbery, assault occasioning bodily harm, stealing, possessing tainted property and possessing a knife in a public place.

He has been refused police bail and is due to appear in the Townsville Childrens Court today.

The teenage girl was released without charge pending further investigations.
