Police update: Serious assault in Ayr, QLD

Police have charged a 35-year-old man over a serious assault incident in Ayr last night, November 12.

It is alleged two staff members at a Edwards Street fast food restaurant received minor injuries during an armed robbery attempt around 8.30pm last night.

During the incident it is alleged a man threatened the staff members with a knife and made demands for money.

He allegedly left the scene empty-handed towards Edwards Street and Graham Street where he was arrested by police.

The staff members, a 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man, received non-life-threatening injuries, and were not transported to hospital.

A 35-year-old man from Horseshoe Lagoon has been charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery and one count each of deprivation of liberty, assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed, common assault and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

He has been refused watch house bail and is appearing in the Townsville Magistrates Court tomorrow, November 14.
