Pontoon retrievalin Brisbane River

Police are reminding boaties along many of southeast Queensland’s rivers to remain vigilant as debris and large objects continue to flow downstream from the region’s ongoing weather event.

Brisbane officers this afternoon were successful in securing a large concrete pier that had broken away from its mooring at Albion.

During the pier’s drift, it’s understood that it struck at least one parked boat and had come close to colliding with several other vessels.

Officers from both Queensland Police and Martine Safety Queensland observed the 40m object drifting toward the river’s northern shore at Eagle Farm, about 300m away from the Gateway Bridges.

The pier was successfully secured by officers and will be removed when safe.
