Preferred proponent announced for signalling and train control systems upgrade

  • AD Alliance selected as preferred proponent for High-Capacity Signalling project
  • Alliance consists of Alstom Transport Australia Pty Ltd and DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd
  • Project will upgrade existing signalling and train control systems on rail network
  • Upgraded systems will help meet future rail network demands

AD Alliance – comprising Alstom Transport Australia Pty Ltd and DT Infrastructure Pty Ltd – has been selected as the preferred proponent to design, supply, build and maintain the Public Transport Authority’s High-Capacity Signalling (HCS) project.

AD Alliance was one of two proponents shortlisted in June last year, with the announcement of the preferred proponent paving the way for contract negotiations to now commence.

The HCS project will replace and significantly upgrade the signalling and train control systems on Perth’s passenger rail network, allowing more trains to run more often.

The number of trains running on Perth’s passenger rail network is expected to grow significantly in coming years, with the completion of several METRONET projects.

The new system, once its delivered and commissioned, will continuously send real-time train data to Transperth, allowing them to monitor the speed and location of every train on Perth’s growing rail network.

The HCS project is funded by both the State and Commonwealth governments and will be delivered in stages over the next 10-years to minimise disruption to train operations.

HCS will be delivered in conjunction with the PTA’s Radio Systems Replacement project, which will upgrade Transperth’s rail radio systems by replacing the existing analogue technology with a high-tech digital communication platform.

As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:

“Announcing the preferred proponent for the High-Capacity Signalling project is a critical milestone in the continued expansion of Perth’s passenger rail network.

“This brings us one step closer to upgrading our rail network’s signalling and train control systems, which will improve our trains’ reliability and safety.

“Significantly upgrading our signalling and train control systems will allow more trains to run more often, benefiting not only our current passengers but also meeting future demands.”
