Premier Accepts Resignation Of Minister Howlett

Tasmanian Government

The Premier has today accepted the resignation of Jane Howlett from her ministerial responsibilities.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff thanked Minister Howlett for her service to the people of Tasmania across a number of portfolios.

“Minister Howlett has made the decision to step aside to ensure the Government remains focused on the job Tasmanians elected us to do,” the Premier said.

“Minister Howlett will continue to represent the people of Lyons and support delivery across the State in a range of areas.”

The Premier said the Government would continue to deliver stability and certainty for the Tasmanian community.

“At a time when Tasmanians expect steady leadership, this Government remains focused on providing stability, continuity, and results,” he said.

“What Tasmanians will not see from this Government is a loss of focus. We are continuing to get on with strengthening the economy, supporting jobs, and delivering essential services.”

Premier Rockliff criticised what he described as an increasingly negative political environment.

“In recent weeks we have seen a pattern of relentless political attacks that have added to distraction and taken attention away from the work that matters to Tasmanians,” he said.

“While others are focused on political games, this Government is focused on governing.”

Arrangements will be put in place to ensure continuity across Ministerial portfolios.

“There will be no disruption to the work of Government. Our agenda remains unchanged, and our commitment to Tasmanians remains absolute,” he said.

Minister Howlett will continue to serve as a Member of Parliament and represent her constituents.
