Privacy Awareness Week 2022

The Queensland Police Service supports Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) – reminding us about the importance of protecting our own and others’ personal information.

PAW is an annual event designed to raise awareness within the public sector and the broader community about the importance of protecting and respecting personal information.

Personal information includes any details that may identify a person or that may be used to identify them.

Personal information may include your name, address, date of birth and gender – but it can also include birthmarks, tattoos or biometric data and body samples.

This personal information may be stored in a variety of ways – on paper, in digital form like databases and video and audio tape and photographs.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) collects and uses personal information every day in the investigation of offences, detection of offenders and the enforcement of laws like road safety.

Take care when you are asked to provide your personal information by finding out who is collecting the information, why is it being collected and how it will be used.

Find out more about privacy in the QPS by reading our privacy statement, and watch the above video from the Office of the Information Commissioner about how you can keep your personal information safe.
