Property crime offences at Townsville

Police have made further arrests and are continuing to investigate a number of property crime related offences that have occurred in Townsville over the weekend.

Following the proactive targeting of known offenders, a further four teenagers have been located and arrested in Wulguru and Vincent this morning including a 15-year-old Palm Island boy, two 14-year-old Wulguru boys and an 11-year-old Vincent boy.

The arrests are in addition to five arrests made yesterday.

Police have also recovered five stolen vehicles over the course of the weekend. Several of them are subject to ongoing forensic testing.

Police continue to investigate additional incidents which have occurred overnight.

At approximately 7.20pm last night, December 9, a stolen Ford Ranger and a stolen Kia Sorrento approached a woman in her Nissan Dualis.

An offender entered the woman’s vehicle and threatened her with what appeared to be a firearm before stealing her vehicle.

At approximately 2am, December 10, a stolen Pajero rammed a police car along Ingham Road in West End. No officers were injured as a result of the incident.

The vehicle was located abandoned in Railway Estate around 3am. Investigations are continuing to locate those responsible.

These incidents remain under investigation this morning and anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Assistant District Officer Acting Superintendent Dean Cavanagh said police are working around the clock to arrest those responsible.

“Community safety is our highest priority.

“It has been a difficult weekend for the Townsville community but our police are committed to bringing those responsible to justice.

“Property Crime Unit Detectives, the Rapid Action and Patrol Squad, the Tactical Crime Squad and the Intelligence Unit and other uniform officers are working together to track offenders as they move throughout the district.

“We have taken nine juveniles into custody over the last 48 hours and we are expecting further arrests in the coming days,” Acting Superintendent Dean Cavanagh said.
