Proposed Budget provides important services for the whole community
The Greater Bendigo City Council’s 2019/2020 proposed Budget will invest $190M in providing important services for the benefit of the community.
The operating Budget proposes to continue a variety of services that range from maternal and child health to street cleaning, road maintenance, environmental health, and operations at Bendigo Art Gallery, The Capital and Ulumbarra theatres.
Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke said Council provided more than 100 important services to the community.
“Some of our services are highly visible, like our waste collection service and our work creating and maintaining our parks,” Cr O’Rourke said.
“Others are equally as important but perhaps less known. We provide immunisation and maternal and child health services to our community, we fund the library service and provide important services like planning, environmental health, maintenance of our buildings, and support and facilitate major events, community art and cultural programs.”
The operating budget service expenditure* includes:
- Resource, Recovery and Education (waste collection and disposal or reuse of household and commercial waste, recyclables and organics) $23.6M
- Parks $12.5M
- Civil Works (including footpaths and road maintenance) $13M
- Community Wellbeing (including aged care, maternal and child health, and early childhood) $12.7M
- Libraries $3.5M
- Statutory Planning $3.3M
- Tourism and Major Events $5.4M
- Capital Venues and Events $6.9M
- Bendigo Art Gallery $4.6M

Submissions to the proposed 2019/2020 Budget are best submitted by completing an online form at www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/budget by close of business on Friday May 17, 2019. Residents may also elect to have their submission heard at a meeting at Council to be held on Wednesday May 22, 2019 at 5.30pm at the main office, 195 Lyttleton Terrace in Bendigo.
