Providing outstanding support

Department of Defence

Defence has recognised outstanding Victorian civilian employers for their continued support to their ADF reservists.

Reservists across the state nominated their civilian bosses for the ADF Reserves and Employer Support Awards, which were presented in a prestigious ceremony in Melbourne on August 24.

The awards recognise employers who provide outstanding support, flexibility or generosity when it comes to enabling ADF reserve service.

Wage Inspectorate Victoria, the overall winner of the public sector category, said reservists “bring back great skills” which were consistently used across its business projects.

Emergency Services Telecommunications, which received an honourable mention in the public sector category, said it was a “great pleasure” to release its people for duty, seeing the shared values between its business and Defence as an organisation.

Head of Joint Support Services Division Major General Douglas Laidlaw said the awards showcased employers that demonstrated exceptional support to their staff who render ADF service.

“Victoria has approximately 4300 reservists across the state who contribute vital skills and capability to help protect Australia, our resources and our people,” Major General Laidlaw said.

“Reservists are key in various operations and are crucial for the future of our workforce.

“Our civilian employers have shown excellence in their approach to supporting their reservists. I commend and sincerely thank all the nominated organisations and congratulate the award winners.

“I look forward to seeing the winners at the national awards later in the year.”

The National Employer Support Awards will be held in Sydney in November.
