The Public Trustee’s 2025–26 Annual Report has been tabled, highlighting a year of strong financial performance and improved outcomes for Tasmanians.
Attorney-General Guy Barnett commended the Public Trustee for their commitment to continuous improvement following the completion of the 2021 Independent Review report by Damian Bugg KC.
“The report highlights the successful implementation of all 28 recommendations from the Independent Review into the Public Trustee, putting Tasmanians at the centre of the Public Trustee’s work,” the Attorney-General said.
“Reform of this scale requires commitment and leadership and reflects the dedication of many people over several years.
“Changes to the Public Trustee have delivered savings averaging $500 a year for around 600 Tasmanians whose financial affairs it manages.
“The Public Trustee has also delivered its second year of consecutive profits, reporting a net operating profit after tax of $371,000.
“This result reflects sound financial management, increased estate administration activity, and a fully funded Community Service Obligations agreement with our Government.
“The Public Trustee continues to play a vital role in supporting vulnerable Tasmanians, with over 1,300 represented persons and more than 1,750 estate beneficiaries supported in 2026.
“The Public Trustee’s focus on modernising legacy systems will ensure it continues to deliver high-quality services to Tasmanians well into the future.
“Our Government is delivering for Tasmanians, proudly supporting the Public Trustee’s transformation which has resulted in improved client engagement, stronger cyber security, and enhanced staff satisfaction.”
