QTS Championships triumphant in inclusivity

The Queensland Target Sports State Rifle Championships took place over the weekend at the Brisbane International Shooting Centre in Belmont. Uncertainty around whether or not Queensland would be entering another lockdown saw a reduced field of competitors, but that didn’t impact the motivation of the athletes in attendance.

All events were contested as Open events with Men, Women, Juniors, Veterans and Para athletes competing together across the various competitions. The action kicked off on Saturday with the 10m Air Rifle qualification where WSPS athlete Glen McMurtrie took the Gold Medal with a score of 241.1, followed by Emily Cane taking the Silver Medal with a score of 233.1, and Kim Faint scoring 211.6 to claim the Bronze Medal. It was great to see the Open format of the 10m Air Rifle showcasing the skills of the field across Para and abled bodied competitors!

The 10m Air Rifle Mixed Teams followed the individual event, where Kevin Chen and Julie Cane took the Gold Medal, Kim Faint and Emily Cane taking the Silver Medal, and Alyce Gallon and Ronnie Dall taking the Bronze Medal.

The 50m Rifle Bench Rest kicked off the action on the final day of competition on Sunday with 85 year old Anton Perk taking the Gold Medal, Simon Schultz taking the Silver Medal, and John Wooldridge taking the Bronze Medal.

The QTS Championships finished with the 50m Rifle Prone where 15 year old Junior James Cane scored 245.4 to take the Gold Medal, Kim Faint scoring 239.1 for the Silver Medal, and Gary Henderson scoring 216.6 for the Bronze Medal!

It was fantastic to see these competitors take part in the QTS Championships over the weekend; really exemplifying how inclusive Target Shooting truly is regardless of age, gender, or ability. A huge thank you to the Officials and Volunteers who worked tirelessly to ensure this event could take place.
