Queensland Assistant Minster visits Toowoomba region

Queensland Assistant Minister for Local Government Nikki Boyd MP visited the Toowoomba Region last week and was given an outline on key projects by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) Mayor Paul Antonio.

Mayor Antonio said the visit was an opportunity for the Toowoomba Regional Council to continue to advocate for critical projects such as the dam safety upgrades and the Equestrian Centre of Excellence as an Olympic Legacy Project.

“I hosted Assistant Minister Boyd, which included a site visit to Cressbrook Dam to inspect the dam safety project that Council is about to undertake. I discussed the importance of financial assistance from the State Government on the project.

“Council recently resolved to continue advocacy work on the dam safety upgrade project. Assistant Minister Boyd heard loud and clear the negative financial impact the project will have on TRC’s bottom line without government assistance.

“The reality is Toowoomba Region ratepayers are being saddled with the cost to upgrade the dam walls due to a change in State legislation. Minster Boyd understands this, and it was pleasing that I could show her the scale of the issue on-site at Cressbrook Dam.

“The further need to create an Olympic Legacy project with the construction of an Equestrian Centre of Excellence at the Toowoomba Showgrounds was also high on the agenda for Minister Boyd’s visit, and we discussed that at length during her time in Toowoomba.

“I also look forward to welcoming the Chief Executive Officer for the Brisbane 2032 Coordination Office, Graham Fraine, on a visit to Toowoomba in the near future,” Mayor Antonio said.
