Commissioner Carroll said this year’s NAIDOC theme is Get up! Stand up! Show up! and is a chance to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of First Nations peoples, particularly those within the Queensland Police Service (QPS).

“Today’s flag raising ceremony was an opportunity for us to come together and share in a celebration of First Nations history and culture,” Commissioner Carroll said.

“It was a special moment to raise these flags with Acting Inspector Samantha Bliss and Police Liaison Officer (PLO) Uncle Roy as we honour our First Nations peoples of Australia who have, and always will be, spiritually and culturally connected to this country.

“Uncle Roy, who is the longest serving PLO of 34 years, and Acting Inspector Bliss have both made significant contributions to their communities and I am grateful to have them here with us today.

“It is through strong leadership, cooperation and a passion for community engagement, that the relationship between the QPS and our First Nations community continues to thrive.”
