Queensland Police join National Day of Action

Today, Tuesday August 27, is the National Day of Action on Road Safety, a time for everyone, no matter where you are in Australia, to stop and think about road safety.

The reality is that too many people are dying on Australian roads.

Policing agencies from across Australia are uniting today, as a direct response to the horror and trauma which has been experienced on roads across Australia so far this year.

Each number represented in this video, represents a life lost in the 2019 road toll.

Road safety is a priority for Queensland Police, not just today, but each and every day of the year.

As at August 27, there have been 135 fatalities on Queensland roads. That is 135 lives lost unnecessarily.

Beyond these statistics though, everyone of those 135 lives lost is a real person who leaves behind loved ones, friends and colleagues who ask themselves why did this happen?

Superintendent Dale Pointon said Queenslanders could expect to see a higher than usual number of police on the roads.

“Regional and rural roads are a priority for every state, and you can expect to see Queensland Police cracking down on drivers choosing to break the law,” Superintendent Pointon said.

“Ultimately, the National Day of Action for Road Safety is about spreading the message that enough is enough.”

Today is also day two of Queensland Road Safety Week, and a time for all Queenslanders to come together to put road safety first.

Today and every day, remember just because the speed limit may be 80 or 100km/h, this doesn’t mean you have to travel at this speed.

Drive to the conditions.

Use common sense.

Stay safe on our roads.
