The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has welcomed 30 experienced police officers into its ranks following their successful graduation from the Police Accelerated Competency Education (PACE) program in Brisbane.
The graduates bring more than 241 years of combined policing experience from jurisdictions across Australia and overseas, further strengthening the QPS frontline and enhancing the Service’s ability to keep Queensland communities safe.
Over 20 weeks, the cohort completed the intensive PACE program, developing their understanding of Queensland legislation, operational procedures and community expectations while preparing for deployment across the state.
The cohort represents a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, with 25 officers born overseas, including the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, South Africa, Korea, Fiji, Spain and New Zealand.
This diversity reflects the QPS commitment to building a workforce that mirrors the communities it serves and brings a broad range of skills, perspectives and experiences to frontline policing.
Acting Commissioner Brett Pointing APM congratulated the graduates and acknowledged the experience they bring to the Service.
“It is with great pride that I welcome these 30 experienced officers to the Queensland Police Service. Their valuable skills and diverse perspectives will strengthen our frontline and support the safety of communities across the state,” Acting Commissioner Pointing said.
“These officers have embraced the transition to the Queensland Police Service with professionalism and commitment.
“Policing is ultimately about people. These officers understand the importance of building trust, supporting victims and keeping communities safe.”
Among the graduates was Constable Melissa Harris who joins QPS after 20 years’ service with the South Australia Police and is looking forward to the Queensland lifestyle.
“We had always wanted to move to Queensland and, after many holidays here over the years, we decided the time was right to make the change,” Constable Harris said.
“My previous experience has taught me that adaptability, professionalism and a willingness to learn from others are important qualities in policing, and I look forward to continuing my career while serving a new community.”
Fellow graduate, Constable Jas Isache, brings a wealth of experience from her time with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and is looking forward to serving the Cairns community.
“Throughout my policing career, I’ve had the opportunity to work across a range of areas, including general duties, youth policing and forensics. Those experiences have provided me with valuable skills that I look forward to bringing to the Queensland Police Service,” Constable Isache said.
“I’ve heard wonderful things about Cairns, and I’m excited to become part of the community and contribute to keeping the region safe.”
Constable Harris and Constable Isache are just two examples of the diverse talent being attracted to the Queensland Police Service through the PACE program. With experienced officers joining from interstate and international policing agencies, the QPS continues to strengthen its frontline capability with a broad range of skills, perspectives and operational experience.
The graduates will now commence duties at stations across Queensland, where they will work alongside their QPS colleagues to deliver policing services, build community trust and help ensure Queensland remains a safe place to live, work and visit. This intake of First Year Constables will be deployed throughout Queensland in the following stations:
