Important ecological space and Heritage Listed Reserve Lobethal Bushland Park will benefit greatly from a Wildlife Recovery Fund grant of $49,000.
The grant money, to be spent over three years, was awarded through the Nature Foundation and South Australian and National Parks and Wildlife Service in response to the Cudlee Creek Bushfire, and will be used to focus on post-fire weed control.
Before the fire in December 2019 the Park was known to provide habitat to a number of fauna and flora species of national, state, and regional conservation significance. Through specialised bushcare contractors, the grant money will be used to
target significant weeds such as Gorse, Blackberry, Erica, Broom, Fumitory,
and Deadly Nightshade, which are known to proliferate following fire.
Through this care it is hoped that endangered species including Pterostylis cucullata ssp. sylviola (Leafy Greenhood) and Glycine latrobeana (Clover Glycine) will return to the landscape.
Adelaide Hills Council is delighted to have this opportunity to support the efforts of the Friends of Lobethal Bushland Park, and partnering organisations Landscapes Hills and Fleurieu Board, and Trees For Life, as we work together to recover this important conservation area.
