Mildura Sporting Precinct (MSP) is calling for registrations for its first ever RecSquash competition.
RecSquash will be open to all comers, with the aim to have fun in a social, round-robin competition.
Councillor for Recreation and Events Mark Eckel said the addition of squash would further complement MSP’s growing suite of social sporting competitions.
“These social competitions are providing people of all ages, genders and experience levels with a chance to socialise, stay active and have fun,” he said.
“We’ve already seen tremendous success on the back of our RecNetball and RecSoccer competitions, with RecSquash to provide another opportunity for people to try a new sport while having fun and connecting with others.”
The competition is due to kick-off in mid-November on MSP’s new squash courts. Those interested can register online at https://bit.ly/MSPRecSquash before 4 November.
The new squash courts are also available for casual hire, providing MSP users and visitors with more opportunities to engage with the sport.

The new courts will also soon become home to Mildura Squash Inc. with the group enjoying training runs at the facility ahead of a permanent move.
Mildura Squash President Kevin Healy said the group would look to relocate permanently to MSP at the conclusion of their current season.
“We’re planning to host a Come and Try weekend on November 11 and 12 for anyone keen to come down and have a hit,” he said.
“We’ve also invited regional clubs from Swan Hill, Broken Hill, Horsham and Loxton to come down for that weekend and have a hit on the courts as well.
“After that we will hold our Club Championship at MSP in late November, before moving our pennant out there next year.”
Kevin said the new facility would provide ample opportunities for squash to grow and develop locally.
“There’s real excitement and buzz amongst our members,” he said. “The extra court space will certainly allow us to attract more players and establish a junior program,” he said.
“Our overall goal is to increase the number of people playing squash, whether that’s casually or in competition.”
Kevin said the MSP courts’ ability to host doubles competition should also prove a drawcard.
“It’s one of only a few facilities in the State that has the ability to transform into a doubles court,” he said. “It’s something we want to explore, while also being keen to attract other events to the venue.”
