Red Cross flood appeal to extend cash payments for affected people

Australian Red Cross will distribute funds raised from its Queensland and NSW Flood Appeal to people impacted by the disaster.

Red Cross launched the Queensland and NSW Floods Appeal for people and communities in those states affected by the devastating 2022 floods, which in some parts have been the highest on record.

The funds are going to helping Red Cross teams provide humanitarian support, which based on ongoing needs assessments in Queensland and NSW may include:

  • Enabling volunteers and staff to help with evacuation and relief centres and outreach service, and
  • Supporting people and communities to recover and build resilience to disasters

Red Cross Acting Director Australian Programs Garry Page said more than 450 Red Cross people have been involved to date, providing psychosocial support and assistance at 49 evacuation and relief centres across Queensland and New South Wales.

“They’ve provided personal support to more than 2,500 impacted people in those centres. We are also operating Register.Find.Reunite. registering people who are looking for missing loved ones, and matching them where they’ve been unable to make contact,” Mr Page said.

We understand that people need help urgently, and we are hoping to receive many donations in the coming days so we can provide financial relief as quickly as possible to flood-affected people.

You can help today by making a tax-deductible donation at redcross.org.au/floodsappeal or by calling 1800 RED CROSS (1800 733 276).
