Redeveloping McKinnon Pavilion to meet demand

Liberal Party Victoria

The Liberals and Nationals’ commitment to upgrade McKinnon Pavilion will mean the local sporting clubs will be able to cater for growing participation.

The pavilion is used by St Pauls McKinnon Football & Netball Club, as well as the McKinnon Cricket Club, but has hit capacity as the demands on the 50 year old venue increases.

In conjunction with Cricket Australia and the AFL, a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will commit $3.5 million toward the redevelopment of the clubrooms, including the delivery of additional female changerooms, new umpire changerooms, improved equipment storage, a dedicated first aid room, and an expanded undercover spectator seating area.

Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, David Southwick, said the upgrades will deliver better spaces for the local clubs and the community groups that use the ageing venue.

“Importantly, this upgrade will mean the clubs can grow their player base, particularly for female players who have been keen to participate, but haven’t been able due to lack of appropriate facilities and capacity issues.”

Liberal Candidate for Bentleigh, Debbie Taylor-Haynes, said after speaking with locals it was clear the new facility was needed to serve the community and its needs.

“Our plan is to support grassroots sport with the facilities that the community deserves and only the Liberals and Nationals will deliver it for McKinnon.”
