Redfern RES charge further two men after drug supply investigation across Sydney, NSW

Officers from Redfern Region Enforcement Squad have charged a further two men following a targeted police operation, as investigations into the supply of prohibited drugs across Sydney’s CBD and Eastern Suburbs continue.

In December last year, detectives from Redfern Region Enforcement Squad (RES) established Strike Force Caladenia to investigate the supply of prohibited drugs – mainly cocaine and MDMA – across Sydney.

During initial inquires, detectives charged five people for drug-related offences.

Following further investigations, strike force investigators executed 11 search warrants at locations at Bondi Beach, North Bondi, Maroubra, Chippendale, Randwick, Sydney CBD, Alexandria, Darlington, Earlwood, Balgowlah and Pennant Hills on Wednesday (29 July 2020).

During the operation, police arrested and charged 16 people.

Later that day, a second occupant of the Bondi Beach home was issued with a Court Attendance Notice (CAN) for drug-related offences.

All 17 people – 14 men and three women – remain before the courts.

As part of ongoing investigations, Redfern RES investigators, with assistance from the Central Metropolitan Operations Support Group (OSG), executed two further search warrants at units at Zetland and Chippendale from 11am yesterday (Thursday 30 July 2020).

During the search of the Zetland unit, officers seized $1455 cash, 800g of GBL, nearly 40g of ketamine, an amount of MDMA and more than 6200g of an unidentified liquid.

Following a search of the Chippendale unit, investigators seized $45,980 cash, nearly 230g of ketamine, 53g of cocaine, 16g of MDMA, 515g of cannabis and an amount of LSD.

All items seized during the operation will undergo further testing.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at Chippendale and charged with supply prohibited drug (large commercial quantity), three counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity), supply prohibited drug and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Friday 31 July 2020).

A 35-year-old man was arrested at the Zetland unit and charged with five counts of possess prohibited drug, two counts of supply prohibited drug (indictable quantity) and deal with property proceeds of crime.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear at the Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday 20 August 2020.

Investigations under Strike Force Caladenia are continuing.
