Reform budget positions NSW for future

Business Council of Australia

The NSW budget is helping lock in the state’s recovery with sensible reforms that encourage businesses to invest and make the state an even better place to live and work, Business Council chief executive Jennifer Westacott.

“NSW is charging ahead with nation leading reforms that make the state a better place to live, work and do business.

“We welcome action to boost women’s workforce participation, which is good for families, good for businesses and will help manage chronic labour shortages across the economy.

“Getting more women back to work could grow the economy by $5 billion and a better early education system for young people will put them in prime position in the fierce global battle for work ready employees.

“Stamp duty makes it harder for households and business to move, older people to downsize and it makes it more expensive to buy a new property. It makes sense for the state government to demonstrate what a system with fewer barriers could deliver, starting with those buying a first home.

“Along with sensible changes to release land and speed up planning approvals, the NSW government is making it easier for first time buyers to get into the market.

“By taking out some of the friction of doing business in NSW, the Perrottet government is helping position the state for the future.

“We thank the government for continuing to work closely with us.

“Today’s budget puts NSW at the front of the pack when it comes to attracting the new investment needed to create new jobs.”
