Toowoomba’s $18.9 million refurbished BlueCare aged care facility has officially opened, with the Australian Government committing $8.9 million to the project and Uniting Church of Australia, represented by BlueCare, providing the remaining $10 million.

The project has delivered much needed upgrades to the BlueCare Facility to provide a bright and modern living space for its 111 residents.

Existing resident rooms have been renovated to abide by new standards and resident communal spaces including dining, living and recreational areas have also been refurbished.

The facilities renewal has created a new welcoming environment where residents can enjoy living and visitors can feel welcome and at home.

Upgrades were also made to back-of-house areas, including rebuilding the kitchen and laundry areas, and renovating the reception and admin spaces.

The upgraded admin areas have also provided the opportunity for health staff, including doctors and physiotherapists, to deliver their services within the facility, supporting the clinical training of nursing and care students.

Ongoing operations of the facility is set to generate a further $37.1 million in economic activity, including via the production and consumption the facility induces.

The project supported 314 direct and indirect jobs during construction, while creating another 156 ongoing jobs and contributed approximately $105.1 million in economic activity, including via local businesses including cafes, contractors and local suppliers.
